PRIMUS' LES CLAYPOOL To Release 'Fancy' Concert DVD
April 24, 2007On May 29, renowned bassist and legendary PRIMUS frontman Les Claypool will release "Fancy" (Prawn Song),his first solo live concert DVD from his 2006 summer tour with his latest group of accomplished players. A major market tour commences May 23 in Minneapolis and wraps July 14 at the All Good Music Festival in Masontown, WV. Claypool will also perform at the Wakarusa and High Sierra festivals.
"Fancy" shows the latest band at its peak performance. With longtime associates Skerik on sax and Mike Dillon on vibes, marimba and percussion (both of GARAGE A TROIS and CRITTERS' BUGGIN'),the band is rounded out by CAKE drummer Paolo Baldi and multi-instrumentalist Gabby La La. The 2006 tour was in support of Claypool's then-current CD release "Of Whales and Woe", and thus material from this album is favored here. Other songs are drawn from 2002's "Purple Onion" and the 1996 Interscope release "Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel: Highball With the Devil".
In other exciting news, National Lampoon has announced its first feature film acquisition, "Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo", the directorial debut of Les Claypool. "Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo" a comedy that takes an endearing yet twisted look at the American cultural phenomenon known as the "jam band" scene. Claypool compares the film's comedic style less to "Spinal Tap" and more to Ricky Gervais's seminal BBC comedy "The Office". Look soon for the theatrical release of the "mockumentary" which follows four head-strong musicians and their desire to make a big splash.
Long acknowledged as one of rock's leading bassists, Les Claypool began branching out from the alt-rock sound of PRIMUS in 2000, starting COLONEL CLAYPOOL'S FEARLESS FLYING FROG BRIGADE, courting the jam band audience. Selling over 500,000 CDs since then under a few different band names including OYSTERHEAD (with THE POLICE's Stewart Copeland and Trey Anastasio of PHISH),Les put out the career-spanning DVD "5 Gallons of Diesel" in 2005. This disc captured the complete myriad of band projects Les has worked with outside of PRIMUS.
